The Grand Room

The Grand Room is a spacious combination of dining area, kitchen and living room. It is accented by a collection of Civil War art.

A beautiful stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the room, with John Paul Strain’s Romney Expedition as the focal point above the mantel of the fireplace. Other pieces in the collection are Christmas Blessing by John Paul Strain, Candlelight and Roses by Mort Kunstler,The Generals Were Brought to Tears by Mort Kunstler, The Battle of Gettysburg by Mort Kunstler, and calendar prints Covered with Glory and Confederate Christmas by Mort Kunstler.

The Heart of a Southern Girl by local artist Henry Kidd is a personal favorite. Some of the newest additions to the collection are Farewell by Edward Clay Wright, Jr. and The Prayer At Valley Forge by Arnold Friberg.

When the fireplace is lit and the candles are set aglow it’s a lovely, quaint setting for a wedding. An American Flag is proudly displayed above the bay window in the Grand Room. This flag was flown over the White House in honor of the owner’s retirement upon devoting 42 years of service to this country.

A spiral staircase designed by Spiral Stairs of America of Erie, Pennsylvania leads upstairs to two guest rooms. This winding staircase connects the downstairs game room with the first floor and continues into the upstairs loft. It is encircled with stone laid by a local master mason from Emporia, Virginia.

His craftsmanship is also found in the design of the stone fireplace, inlaid red brick kitchen counter tops, and in the stone walkways surrounding the exterior.

The Loft

The Loft is adjacent to the upstairs guest rooms. It is a great setting for hosting an afternoon tea or brunch for a small group.

The Loft has a wonderful tiger oak 1929 piano available for guests to use. The room is perfect for quiet reading time next to the fireplace or just relaxing after a long day’s travel.

Chief Gallager, the Cigar Indian travelling from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, resides in the Loft with other furry friends collected from the host’s travels.

The Pool

The exterior features an 18′ x 36′ in-ground swimming pool. The pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Life doesn’t get any better than enjoying a cool swim on a hot Virginia summer night. Most evenings, the crickets will sing to keep you company.

The pool is equipped with lighting for night swimming. The water level ranges from 3′ to 8′ with a diving board at the deepest end.

Children are permitted by exception only and must be supervised by an expert adult swimmer at all times. Absolutely no alcohol ever permitted around the poolside.

We welcome church youth groups for summer time cookouts and pool parties. It’s a wonderful opportunity for teenagers to enjoy fellowship, food, and fun in the sun

The Veranda

Regardless of the season, the veranda which surrounds this haven offers solace and the quiet comfort of wildlife playing. Squirrels frolic amongst the pines and birds scurry from treetop to treetop.

We invite most everybody to enjoy our veranda, except the mosquitoes. We light party torches to help keep them away, and bug repellent is free upon the asking. We do live in the woods though, and so do they.
